_Minibio:
GABRIELA GIFFONI (1994) is a screenwriter and director. She has a degree in Audiovisual from UFRJ, a post-graduate degree in Writing Arts from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and a Master's degree in Cinematographic Creation from the Elías Querejeta Film School in Spain - where she took classes with Pedro Costa, Mariano Llinás, Matías Piñeiro and Catarina Vasconcelos. She was one of those selected to receive the Gulbenkian Foundation's Scholarship for Artists Studying Abroad. As a scriptwriter, she has developed projects in Brazil and Portugal for channels such as Amazon Prime, HBO, DisneyPlus and RTP. Among her main works that have been produced are the police drama series "Impuros"; "O Negociador", and the children's series "Valentins". She's scriptwriter of the series "Finisterra", produced by Take It Easy, which is currently being finalized. She was the main scriptwriter in the development of the biographical series, "Elke: As maravilhas", produced by Brigitte Filmes, and "Carmen Miranda", produced by Show-Off in Lisbon. She has also been a permanent scriptwriter for the production company Zola Filmes, the Porta dos Fundos channel and the creative nucleus of the production company Cajamanga.
In cinema, she is the co-screenwriter of the feature films “Hannah in the Clouds”, selected for the PLOT (IndieLisboa) and Arché (Doclisboa) laboratories, and “Infinite Dream”, selected for the Development Laboratory of the LAlternativa Festival in Barcelona, both by director Ian Capillé. Together with Capillé, she is part of the film production company Filmes Fantasma. She directed the short films "Killing Me Softly" and "Echo of a Punch to the Bone", the winner of the Portuguese Film Fund's 2020 completion prize, which was shown at festivals such as IndieLisboa, ISFF Rio de Janeiro and Caminhos do Cinema Português. She is currently developing her first feature film “Estranho, estranho, estranho”, which was tutored by Matías Piñeiro, and was selected for the writing residency at ExtremLab, Barcelona|Badajoz.
She is deeply interested in inventive and authorial ways of telling a story. She created the “Practical Writing Lab - Composing with Images”, which offers tools and works with participants to develop their own ways of writing and producing their films. The lab had its first edition at the X Festival Guiões - Portuguese language scripts festival in Lisbon in 2024.
